Adnan Raja: Brother of Nouman Raja among 5 deputies involved in shooting of Olie James Goad Jr.

UBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The older brother of Nouman Raja, the former Palm Beach Gardens police officer who shot and killed Corey Jones, was one of five Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies involved in a shooting in suburban Lake Worth early Sunday.

PBSO said Monday that Adnan Raja, 40, a deputy with the sheriff’s office since April 2014, was placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting of 48-year-old Olie James Goad.

Just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Goad was shot after a car chase with the five deputies.

PBSO said Goad drove into a business plaza located in the 4400 block of South Congress Ave. and bailed out of the vehicle, then fled on foot.

While running toward the end of the plaza, PBSO said Goad encountered a deputy and threatened to kill him with an unidentified black object in his hands.

PBSO said Goad then continued running on foot, fleeing to the far west of the parking lot and hiding behind several trucks.

Goad ran from behind the vehicles toward deputies holding a large hunting knife, pointing the knife at deputies in a shooting stance.

Deputies fired their weapons, striking Goad several times.  He was transported to Delray Medical Center where he is in critical condition.

The other deputies involved in Goad’s shooting are: Garrett Bechtel, James Barca, Robert Zajicek II and Autumn Krick.

Nouman Raja is under investigation for the shooting death of Corey Jones in October while Jones was waiting for help after his vehicle broke down.  Nouman Raja was later fired from the police department.
