In a galaxy not so far away, the anticipation is growing.

"I've been waiting for this since I was like 8 years old," said Star Wars fan Kayla Lynn Egan.

"Let's just say star wars was 97.5 percent of my childhood," said another fan.

Thursday night Star Wars made its return to the big screen after more than 10 years. Fans flocked to theaters to see the 7th episode in the Sagal The Force Awakens.

Lots of fans dressed up as their favorite characters or in Star Wars gear, some with light sabers.

"It's really cool because I didn't think id get to see another Star Wars movie in theaters," said Sydney Wolaver.

Most fans, like Wolaver,  got their tickets online a few weeks in advance.

"I'm  looking for a wicked original story, which its gonna be."

Some of the first screening sold out quickly, but on the "light side or the force" some theaters have up to ten showings opening night.
