SLC Bomb squad: Suspicious object not dangerous

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Bomb Disposal team has determined that a suspicious object wrapped in aluminum foil in the Tradition area of Port St. Lucie Sunday morning is not dangerous.

The bomb disposal unit determined there were 2 devices that turned out to be store anti-theft devices.

The devices were found by people setting up a green market near The Landing in Tradition.

It is believed someone used aluminum foil to cover the devices, then shoplifted items from a nearby store.

"Based on both X-ray and remote inspection by our bomb technicians, both items were identified as store security devices that were removed from merchandise and tossed into the grass, Sheriff Ken J. Mascara said. "At this holiday season we ask everyone to be cognizant and vigilant at all times. Today was a perfect example of how members of our community suspected something was not right and called authorities to report it."
