Inventor turns paddleboard into workout machine

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -A local man has invented something he hopes will be the next big thing in the sport of paddleboarding.

Guy Chaifetz spends his mornings by the Southern Boulevard Bridge between West Palm Beach and Palm Beach showing his invention to anyone who wants a ride.

Called the Supski, it's an unconventional approach to the booming sport of stand-up paddleboarding.

"It's stand-up paddleboard, cross-country ski," he says, "I've come up with a system where you can basically use the upper body techniques of cross-country skiing and power a paddleboard."

Chaifetz says he got a patent for the Supski earlier this year.

He's now pushing his development online and at conventions trying to get people in the paddleboard industry to let him in.

"The industry is absolutely exploding with the popularity of the sport," Chaifetz says.

In fact, stand up paddleboarding is one the fastest growing sports in the world.

Industry experts say in the past five years, the amount of people standup paddleboarding has more than doubled.

"There are so many things to do on a paddleboard, you can go in the ocean, streams, rivers.  There are people who are doing whitewater rafting with paddle boards," Chaifetz says.

Chaifitz hopes his Supski, can go from test runs on the waters of our area, to being a fixture in the paddleboarding world.
