Snow, tornadoes impact travelers to South Fla.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Sunday was a long day for folks traveling from Dallas. Many dealt with flights that were canceled or delayed for hours. But not everyone had trouble getting to South Florida.

"Security lines were real heavy in Denver," said Todd Blum of Loxahatchee.

But that was the worst of it for the Blum family returning from Christmas in Colorado to Palm Beach International Airport.

"It was great, everything was good," said Blum. "We got there early enough and went right through Denver."

David Ardito and his wife just arrived from Newark.

"We had 75-degree weather on Christmas Eve," said Ardito. "That's when we went into the city.  Just perfect, the weather was gorgeous."

They flew to Palm Beach County to stay in the sunshine.

"Snow is coming, so we decided to get the heck out of New Jersey," said Ardito.

And while some folks didn't have to contend with nasty weather, Wendy Bauer, who was returning from Dallas, did.

"It was pretty bad," said Bauer. "I've never seen clouds move so fast as I did last night over downtown Fort Worth."

Her flight, scheduled to arrive just after 2 p.m., was delayed for more than three hours.

"It was weird, the weather was very strange," said Bauer. "I've never seen it act like that before, so it was scary."

Tornadoes and thunderstorms in Dallas caused more than 20 percent of flights to be delayed or canceled. Bauer was glad to leave behind those travel woes.

"The wind sheers were so bad that it was like 50 mph winds around the airport, so it was crazy," explained Bauer. "I'm glad to be home. I miss Texas, but I'm glad to be in Florida today."

The last flight from Dallas arrived at Palm Beach International Airport just before midnight. The flight was on time.
