Fire at mobile home park sends 2 to hospital

Crews battled a large fire early Wednesday morning at a mobile home park west of Lantana that sent two people to the hospital.

The fire occurred around 2:15 a.m. at Lantana Cascade Mobile Home Park located off of South Congress Avenue near Lantana Road.

Capt. Albert Borroto with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said when crews arrived 90 percent of the mobile home was already engulfed by flames.

A fire chief at the scene said it took more than 40 firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze.  More than 13 fire units responded to the scene.

Two occupants inside a home were taken to the hospital, but their conditions have not been released.

The chief said the mobile home park doesn't have fire hydrants in the area, so they had to bring in a 3,000-pound tank to help fight the flames.

Crews also had to pump water out of a lake to battle the fire.

The fire also charred the side of a neighbor's home, but those residents were not hurt.

The mobile home that caught fire is a total loss.   Red Cross is assisting the affected occupants.

People in adjacent homes were evacuated, but firefighters sprayed water on their homes to prevent the fire from spreading.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
