Grant money helping West Palm Beach businesses

Sloan's employees hard at work making strawberry ice cream. Soon they could be joined by new employees.

The company is receiving about $41,000 in grant money from the city of West Palm Beach.

David Wild, director of franchising said, "So when you talk about the money that we are getting from the grant, for example, we have people that need to be hired. We have ice cream makers, we have drivers, we have warehouse workers."

Wild says it's a good move for his company and for the city. He said, "We do buy a lot of things from local suppliers and so it's going to boost their business and then they are gong to have to hire more people."

Sloan's isn't the only company benefiting from the grant.

Christopher's Kitchen will also be receiving grant money. They will use it towards opening up a location in downtown West Palm Beach. That grant will be around $30,000. Grant money local businesses are hoping pays off.

"I spoke to someone who drove from Melbourne specifically to come down here and get our ice cream and while they are here, they get dinner, maybe they get a hotel, things like that, so there's more money coming into the community" said Wild.
