Car crashes after pursuit, gun thrown out window in southern Palm Beach County

Police say four people are in custody after the stolen car they were in crashed in Delray Beach.

Boynton Beach police say officers began pursuing a Hyundai Sonata on Boynton Beach Boulevard near Seacrest Boulevard following the 911 call of an aggravated assault with a firearm.

Stop-sticks were set down on the vehicle’s tires as it turned southbound on Interstate 95, police said.

Somewhere between Woolbright Road and Atlantic Avenue a shotgun was thrown from the car and landed on the interstate.

Police described it as a pink and black camouflage shotgun suspected of being stolen during a burglary several months ago.

The driver, with only one good tire functioning, got off I-95 at Atlantic Avenue but flipped over while trying to get around traffic.

Two males and two females were taken into custody and later transported to a hospital as a precaution. It’s believed they did not suffer any serious injuries.

Two of the four suspects taken into custody have been charged. One was identified as 23-year-old James Tyrell Fredrick of Boynton Beach, charged with aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

The other suspect was identified as 21-year-old Shatoria Robinisha Jones of Boynton Beach, who is charged with tampering with evidence and possession of crack cocaine.

Police plan to charge the driver with aggravated assault and grand theft auto.
