Local deputy helps stranded grandmother at PBIA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Here is an example of how a simple act of kindness can go a long way. A local deputy stepped up to help a grandmother stranded at the Palm Beach Airport with no place to go.

Because of the snow storm that blanketed the northeast, the 75 year-old had to wait two days for the next flight out to New Jersey.  However, she couldn’t afford to get a hotel room.

When we first met Bobbi Young on Sunday, she was camped out at the airport. "I was comfortable. I was watching the planes take off which I love to do anyway," said Young.

An off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy and his wife had seen Bobbi on the news and wanted to help.

"I got into the room and just started to cry,” said Young. “I couldn’t believe someone would do that for me."

The deputy and his wife paid for a room at the Double Tree so Bobbi wouldn’t have to sleep in the airport.  Their kindness didn’t stop there. The couple also left Bobbi 20 dollars so she could have breakfast before she took off for home.

“It made it all worthwhile to meet people like that," said Young.

While she's heading back to the cold of Jersey, she's leaving Florida with a warm feeling in her heart.

The deputy and his wife say they want to remain anonymous, telling FOX 29 it was just the right thing to do.
