Church worker says she was almost sucked out of door in Delray Beach

Strong winds knocked down trees and caused roof damage near West Atlantic Avenue and Homewood Boulevard Thursday morning.

Southeastern Palm Beach County was under a tornado warning until 11 a.m. and Delray Fire Rescue said the damage was consistent  with tornado-force winds.

A worker at St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church said she was answering a door and was almost sucked out. “I have lived through one other tornado. This was a tornado, without a doubt. I’m positive,” she said.

The National Weather Service later said the damage was consistent with an EF0 tornado. It does not plan to send a team to investigate.

“I think we’ve had several miracles today,” said the Rt. Rev. William H. Perkins, Jr.

He said the physical damage is not tremendous but it is substantial.
