DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- According to the National Weather Service, an EF-0 tornado traveled through parts of southern Palm Beach County Thursday afternoon.

The tornado produced winds between 65-85 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

Dennis Hooper was in Lake Ida Plaza when he says the tornado came through.

"Never been in something like that. I've been in a hurricane but not a tornado.. it was just seconds man. With the winds just in and out," he says.

He says as soon as he was alerted about the tornado, it had already went through the plaza.

The tornado ripped limbs right off of trees and tore a sign into pieces at the plaza.

"It was across the street, in the middle of the street, down the parking lot, so it must've went in that direction," he says.

The storm that came through Thursday also left a lot of standing water.

Staff at Palm Beach County Mosquito Control say it's crucial residents get rid of standing water at their homes.

"We really try to get people to tip over their buckets, turn everything upside down, make sure nothing's really holding water. Those are the types of mosquitos that normally carry viruses," says Chris Reisinger, environmental analyst with PBC Mosquito Control.

He says the recent dip in temperatures has killed off some of the mosquito population, so their numbers aren't too high right now.

The department is monitoring the recent rains, and will treat certain areas if necessary to get rid of the bugs.
