RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. -- One man is dead and another one injured after two separate shootings Friday evening in Riviera Beach.
Police say one shooting took place near the 1100 block of W. 31st Street near Avenue M at approximately 5:30 p.m.
58-year-old Gary Rozier was taken to a local hospital by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue for treatment of his injuries, where he later died.
Riviera Beach Police Major Leonard Mitchell says officers do not think this was a random shooting.
Officers say there was an ongoing dispute between the victim and suspect or suspects.
Police have persons of interest but have not released any suspect information yet.
There were more than 20 markets scattered along West 31st Street where witnesses say they heard more than a dozen shots fired.
"It sounded like two, more than one type of gun cause I can tell by the sounds of the boom, boom," said a neighbor who wants to go by Duke.
Duke says he was mowing the lawn when he heard the shots fired.
"I ran towards the front of the house and ducked up under the car. I mean it was so many shots fired, I was scared I just ran for my life," he added.
Riviera Beach Mayor Thomas Masters came out to the scene and says preventing gun violence like this is going to take a community effort.
"If we continue to press for more neighborhood crime watch programs and more community policing where the community gets to know the police better and the police get to know the community better, it's a win win" said Mayor Masters.
A few minutes after the first shooting, a 19-year-old male was transported by a private automobile to a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man said he had been shot in the 1200 block of Avenue U. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Police say the two incidents do not appear to be related.
Anyone with information on either of the shootings is asked to contact Riviera Beach Police at 561-845-4123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
