Thieves sought after string of car burglaries

LAKE PARK, Fla. – Monday morning dozens of residents along Lake Shore Drive woke up to find their car windows smashed and the contents of their glove box thrown around.

“Nobody heard any alarms,” explained Gary Rippberger. “But everybody's glass was down on the ground. They must crawled in into the cars because none of the alarms went off. It doesn't look like they opened any doors."

Two of Rippberger's vehicles were hit overnight. The driver's side window of both cars shattered. But here's where it gets weird.

"Everybody here has said nothing was stolen out of their car," Rippberger said.

The burglars broke windows, rummaged through the glove box and center console, then moved to the next car.

"They fingerprinted," Rippberger said referring to investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. "They thought they got some prints off of this car."

After hitting Rippberger's lot, it appeared thieves hopped a leaning fence to access more cars next door. Including a Jeep belonging to Karen Glas. Her Jeep is one of about 30 cars total hit overnight.

"The driver's side window was completely out and laying on the ground," Glas said. "The rider's side was still just smashed and then caved in. I don't think they really accomplished much they took some quarters and dimes and nickels from us."

Glas now has to replace both the driver side and passenger side front windows.

"It's just frustrating you know. You've got a gate, you've got security cameras and for somebody to break in and smash in your cars is a little frustrating," Glas explained.

Anyone with any information in reference to the burglaries is asked to contact the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
