Magical moment: Kayaker comes face to face with a right whale

"Massive, massive, beautiful woman," said Brandon Moran, lifeguard at Boca Beach Club.

When you hear that description, a whale doesn't necessarily come to mind.  But when you listen to Moran describe the moment, and watch it yourself, the surreal nature of it sinks in.

"It was so just magical almost to be in the water with her," he said.

He has a whale of a tale to tell.  The lifeguard was in a kayak off the coast of Boca, face-to-face with a whale he describes as the size of two school buses.

"Words can't describe what I felt in the water with her," said Moran. "I'll remember it for the rest of my life."

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the 27-year-old right whale, last spotted in Jupiter, is not in good health, and the prognosis isn't great either.

Moran said he quickly realized the whale was in danger with boats and propellers lurking, she he came back to shore to call for help.

It's important to point out that FWC wants boaters to stay at least 500 yards away . They said they will not intervene and let nature take its' course, unless the whale is beached.

This is a close up encounter that will never be forgotten.

"I was blessed that she came to my beach and shared a moment with me," he said.
