Hixton Banton and Randy Brazier did not know each other before Wednesday.  But now they’re a permanent part of each others lives.

Banton's car ended up in the pond in front of Port St. Lucie City Hall Wednesday.  He was clipped at the corner of Airoso and PSL Boulevards.  The car spun, rolled up a berm, and went airborne.

Brazier ran across the street from his family insurance agency into the water.

“He came to me and he said ‘I got you, I got you. Are you ready?’  Then he opened the door," said a relieved Banton.

“I opened the door, got him out and he panicked and took us both under.  I hit the bottom and pushed us both back up and got him on the car," said Brazier.

Another good samaritan, along with three Port St. Lucie detectives, helped bring the men back to shore.

It took divers a few tries to find the vehicle that was submerged in 15-20 feet of water.

Hixton, who said he can’t swim, says the car can be replaced, but he would be dead without Randy.

"He’s my hero.  People like those are rare to find," said Banton.
