14th annual Robotics Extravaganza held at Palm Beach State College

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - There was engineering and problem solving at Palm Beach State College on Saturday.

Hundreds of middle school students from all over Palm Beach County were competing in the 14th Annual Robotics Extravaganza.

For eighth grader Andrew Kaye, there's a lot more to it than competition.

"We've had a lot of fun just programming it so we can get all the points," said Kayne.

Twenty-three Palm Beach County middle school teams unleashed their robot creations and were judged on how well their robots could complete different tasks.

For school leaders, there's plenty of learning.

"For me, one of the most important pieces is working in teams, figuring out how to do problem solving," says Olivia Rogers with the Palm Beach County School District.

Quite possibly setting the stage for future careers.

"To really increase and show them all the opportunities in engineering," says Oleg Andric, a professor at Palm Beach State College.

About 200 students participated in Saturday's extravaganza, which is the highest turnout so far for this competition.
