Alexander Eddie Gillis: Third suspect arrested in FAU student's fatal shooting

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Boca Raton police said Wednesday that a third suspect has been arrested in connection with the December fatal shooting of a Florida Atlantic University student.

Alexander Eddie Gillis, 22, of Miami Gardens, Fla., is charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a fire arm.  Boca Raton police said he was arrested Tuesday in Miami-Dade County.

Nick Acosta, a 19-year-old student, was shot Dec. 29 during a suspected drug deal at the University Park Apartments, a student-only apartment complex in Boca Baton.

Acosta was a sophomore student at the university, majoring in pre-business in the College of Business.

Boca Raton police said Gillis' description matched a suspect who was captured on video surveillance shortly before the shooting.

Gillis was also seen running with a pronounced limp from the apartment complex after the shooting. Video footage also showed several distinctive tattoos on Gillis.

Phone records for Gillis show a route from Miami Gardens to the area of University Park Apartments at the time of the homicide.

A person who raised Gillis identified him from the surveillance video and said Gillis had a limp because of gunshot wound he sustained last year.
