HYPOLUXO, Fla. - The driver accused of hitting and killing a 5-year-old boy on Saturday is charged with vehicular homicide, driving without a license causing death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

Lex Eugene made his first court appearance on Sunday.

A day later there is still shock and sadness. family members are mourning the loss of Jayden Readon. A memorial continues to grow at the crash scene.

"I would never be able to explain what I felt at that minute."

Ida Cuevas says shes furious with what happened to her grandson.

"He took a 5-year-old from us, he just snatched it away."

Deputies say Lex Eugene was fleeing Boynton Beach Police on Miner Road when he struck Jayden at Summit Road.

"My grandson laying in a field of sand with his limbs broken."

Cuevas is frustrated Eugene was out on the roads. She's also calling for safety changes on Miner.

"Not just Jayden that happened on this road. Wouldn't have happened."

Eugene is expected back in court tomorrow. Cuevas says she plans to to discuss her safety concerns with county commissioners.
