Deadline is Tuesday to register to vote in Presidential Preference Primary Election

Floridians face a Tuesday deadline to register to vote for next month's Presidential Preference Primary Election.

Additionally, Florida is what is known as a closed-primary state, so only citizens who are affiliated with the Democratic or Republican parties may cast a ballot.

Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho says the number of people who have switched from been registered with minor political parties or none at all to one of the two major parties is the most he has seen in 20 years.

Sancho says it proves that Florida?s primary matters and voters want a voice, "We have seen a tremendous amount of activity in people switching their parties from independent status, which is NPA, to either the Democratic or the Republican Party."

Florida's Presidential Preference Primary will be held on March 15th.

In addition to election day, early voting will be held in the two weeks leading up to the election, and voters are able to cast absentee ballots right now if they choose.
