Final preparations underway for 2016 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - One of the biggest events of the year getting set to tee off in Palm Beach County.

The Honda Classic is just over a week away, and tonight final preparations are underway.

Last year, the Honda Classic brought in more than 165,000 spectators, and raised $2.5 million for local charities.

This year, organizers are hoping to do even better.

Around PGA national Tuesday, workers continued to install 200,000 square feet of scaffolding.

They are also working on new spectator areas - including a champaigne lounge overlooking the tenth fairway and craft beer and food trucks on the 16th fairway.

Also, the famous 'Bear Trap' is getting a major expansion, with 300 additional seats on the 17th hole alone

Organizers say they also took a few lessons away from last year's weather issues, which put a bit of a damper on the last few days of the tournament.

"On site, we have additional car paths we put in play," says Andrew George, the Tournament Director. Instead of walking throught the mud, we put more cement out there, as you move from the 18th hole down to the 17th hole."

If you haven't bought your tickets yet, ground passes for the 4 day tournament start at $50 if you buy them in advance.

Kids 15 and under are free.

News Channel 5 will be out at PGA National all next week bringing you coverage from this year's Honda Classic
