Mobile device task force cracking down on improper cell phone use at Honda Classic

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - For a golfer getting ready to tee off, silence and concentration is key.

Which is why noises, like the click of a cell phone camera, can be a pain.

"The pros say it disturbs them when they can hear the clicking on the camera or the noise," says Bill Hofmann.

Hofmann has been on the 'Mobile Device Task Force' for the past 6 years.

They enforce the rules when it comes to cell phone use.

According to Honda Classic rules, you're allowed to text and email, but phones must be on silent.

If you want to talk on your phone, you have to use designated phone zones.

This year cell phone rules have been dialed back a bit. Pictures are now allowed, as long as they're not on the green or at the tee.

Video, however, is still banned across the course.

"It's a much more relaxed than we started out, where we literally used to confiscate people's phone," Hofmann says.

Personally, he says he's only confiscated one cell phone in his 6 years at the Honda Classic.

"Two years ago, a person waited till I drove away," he says. "Then came back and I watched them and they were on the phone again."

For the most part golf fans out here know the rules - just ask Lou and Stu.

"They comply," Stu says. "People are all good on the golf course."

People following the rules makes an easier for day the task force members.

Not a bad gig - especially considering the perks.

"This is better than us having to walk around," Lou says.
