Fast-moving fire destroys two homes in suburban West Palm Beach

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A local community is thankful a fast-moving fire didn't take any lives Tuesday evening.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says the fire started at 6 p.m. on Albert Road in suburban West Palm Beach.

The fire destroyed two homes. No one was injured in the blazes. That may not have been the case if not for some neighbors who sprang into action.

"I hear some branches burning so I look around and I look up there and there was a big flame" said John Berrios who lives just across the street from where the fire started.

Berrios says the first thing he did was run across the street to warn his neighbors.

"I knocked on the door and she came like 'what's up what's up?' And I said look you have a big flame behind your house" Berrios said.

By the time Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews arrived just minutes after 6 p.m., the fire had already jumped to a second home.

"You can see how close the homes are here. The firefighters did a phenomenal job knocking the fire down and extinguishing it before it could spread further,"  said Capt. Albert Borroto of PBC Fire Rescue.

The American Red Cross is assisting the families. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
