Student brings unloaded gun to Woodlands Middle School in Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County School District says a Woodlands Middle School student brought an unloaded gun to school Thursday.

The student showed it to some other students, according to the District.

Staff was made aware and the student is in the process of being disciplined.

Woodlands Middle School is located at 5200 Lyons Road.

The school's principal contacted parents through a recorded phone call with the following message:

"Good evening parents this is Jeff Eassa, principal of Woodlands Middle School. Today a student was found to be in possession of a handgun on campus. While the gun was unloaded and missing parts we have a zero tolerance for possession of weapons on campus.  School police is investigating and the student will face serious disciplinary actions. I want to commend the students in the child’s classroom for reporting the gun to school leadership so that we could act immediately and secure the weapon.  Please use this opportunity to encourage your children that if they ever they suspect something is wrong it is very important they report it. I understand this is upsetting but please know we continue to do all we can to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff at Woodlands Middle School."
