New cracks found in Alexander Lofts in West Palm Beach

New cracks have been discovered on the brick facade of the Alexander Lofts building in downtown West Palm Beach, according to the city.

Part of the veneer on the east side collapsed Thursday morning and bricks rained down onto an adjacent law firm.

4 people were injured.

The newest cracks were found on the north side of the building, according to the city.  In addition, inspectors said the north face is also separating from the building.

Residents won’t be able to return until at least Wednesday.

Crews have been constructing scaffolding around the building. Engineers are working on a plan to repair the east side wall and now reinforce the north side wall.

The city says preliminary reports show the cause of the falling bricks was erosion between the metal attachments holding the brick facade.

The city says it's the responsibility of the property owner to inspect and maintain the outer walls of the building.
