NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- A southwest Florida sheriff's deputy is facing a DUI charge after officials say he crashed his cruiser into another vehicle near Naples.

Collier County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten says Cpl. Scott Russell didn't see a vehicle at a stop light. When he swerved to avoid that car, he hit another. She tells the Naples Daily News that no one was injured.

Witnesses told deputies Russell appeared to be "incoherent and dazed."

Russell was treated and released at a hospital.

Batten says deputies investigating the crash determined Russell was driving impaired and was arrested and charged with DUI. The hospital didn't take a blood test and he refused a field sobriety test. She says he'll be on administrative leave during an investigation.

It wasn't clear whether he's hired a lawyer.
