Chicken of the Sea tuna under recall notice

Tri-Union Seafoods LLC is recalling more than 100,000 cans of Chicken of the Sea-branded tuna after reports of the food being undercooked.

One of the two affected products is the 5-ounce cans of chunk light tuna in oil, with a UPC code of 0 4800000195 5 and a best by date of 2-10-19.

The other is the 5-ounce can of chunk light tuna in water with a UPC code of 0 4800000245 7 and best by dates of:

2-18-19
2-22-19
2-23-19
2-25-19
3-2-19
3-3-19

There have been no illnesses yet caused by the products.

The company says the tuna could've been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction.

"The health and safety of our consumers is our number one priority," Shue Wing Chan, president of Tri-Union Seafoods LLC, said. "As soon as we discovered the issue, we took immediate steps to initiate this voluntary recall, alerting our retail customers that received the product and instructing them to remove it from store shelves."

This is the second recall of canned tuna in the past week. Cans of Bumble Bee tuna were recalled last week.
