Wellington teen remembered year after fatal crash

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Friends and family of a Wellington teenager killed in a scooter crash a year ago plan to honor her life Monday.

Naomi Pomerance, 16, died in a wreck where investigators said the driver had drugs in his system.

Deputies said Pomerance was riding on the back of a scooter being driven by 23-year-old Tyler Cohen. The two were driving on Gun Club Road near Military Trail.

Cohen was apparently weaving in-and-out of traffic and ran a red light before being struck.

Cohen survived the wreck and deputies said they found marijuana and morphine in his system.

Right now Cohen is in jail, charged with DUI manslaughter and other charges. His next hearing is April 5.

The "Naomi Pomerance Victim Safety Act" was introduced by Rep. Dave Kerner. The bill would set standards for marijuana intoxication. That bill never moved passed the Highway and Waterway Safety Subcommittee.

Pomerance’s family spoke to WFLX in September about the bill and their efforts to move it forward.

Pomerance’s family will gather Monday at the Havana Hideout in Lake Worth. The group plans to be there at 7 p.m.
