Janissa Valdez: Girl, 12, body slammed by Texas school officer in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - (WOAI/NBC) Cellphone video of a police officer body slamming a 12-year-old student in a san antonio, texas school has forced the school district and the police to investigate.

The incident happened March 29 at a middle school.

Sixth-grader Janissa Valdez appears to be thrown to the ground by the officer and many of the child's classmates could be heard in the background laughing.

A spokeswoman for the district said it happened after a verbal confrontation between two students and the officer intervened.

Janissa claims she just wanted to go somewhere and talk through a problem with a classmate.

A few days later this video surfaced and was posted on a local blog.

Janissa believes the incident can be described in one word.

"Wrong....because I wasn't going to do anything," Janissa said.

"You could hear where she just hits the ground it was nothing but concrete, like cement," said Janissa's  mother Gloria Valdez.

Janissa suffered a bump to the head, but otherwise is OK.

The officer involved had been with the police force for a little over a year and is now on paid leave while the police department and school district investigate.
