Florida Gov. Rick Scott punches back at Lake Worth activist Cara Jennings

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is punching back. Earlier this week, he was confronted by former Lake Worth city commissioner Cara Jennings, at a Starbucks in Gainesville. When Scott and members of his staff walked in, Jennings immediately started in on Scott, a video posted to YouTube shows.

“You’re an as*hole, Rick Scott,” Jennings screams. “You cut Medicaid, so I couldn’t get Obamacare. You don’t care about working people. You should be ashamed to show your face around here."

"Shame on you, Rick Scott,” she goes on to say.

The 39-year-old Jennings served two terms as a Lake Worth commissioner in 2006 and 2010. In the video, she goes on to tell Scott he stripped women of access to public health care as he is leaving the Starbucks.

But on Friday, Governor Scott’s PAC, ‘Let’s Get To Work’, produced and posted, which the governor shared to his verified Facebook page, a video slamming Jennings for the ambush in the Gainesville Starbucks.

“Check out our latest video: Latte Liberal Gets an Earful,” Scott said in the post.”

In the video, the PAC points out that more than 9,000 jobs have been created in the Gainesville area near where the Starbucks encounter took place since Scott took office in 2011.

“A million jobs? Who here has a great job,” Jennings yelled at Scott earlier this week. “Well, almost everybody. Except those who are sitting around coffee shops, demanding public assistance, surfing the Internet, and cursing at customers who come in,” the video says as it ends.

On Thursday, Jennings extended an offer to Scott, saying she formally offered to buy Gov. Scott a cup of joe and requested a conversation with him to discuss the issues in a more calm setting.

As of yet, Gov. Scott’s office has only responded with the attack ad so a meeting between the two does not seem likely, at least not yet.

In 2010, our news partners at the Palm Beach Post published a lengthy profile on Jennings called 'Cara Jennings, the radical cheerleader of Lake Worth', which highlights much of her activism over the years in our area and across the state.
