In a report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics earlier this year, data showed that 3.1 million Americans quit their jobs in December 2015, representing the highest quitting rate in a month since December 2007.

The overall rate was 2.1 percent for the last month of 2015, and Wells Fargo economists believe the uptick in quits "reflects workers feeling additional job opportunities are more widely available."

With this in mind, CareerTrends found the industries with the highest quitting rates of the past year. Using data from the BLS, we ranked the 10 industries with the highest rates of quitting from January 2015 to December 2015. To find the overall 2015 quit rate, we took the reported monthly quit rates from the BLS and found the median quit rate for each industry.

We also included the total quits for the year from each industry, as well as the industry description provided by the BLS.

Note: In the event of ties, the industry with the most total quits was ranked higher.

10. Real Estate and Rental and Leasing

  • Quit rate: 1.5 percent
    Total quits: 391,000
Description: The Real Estate and Rental and Leasing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in renting, leasing or otherwise allowing the use of tangible or intangible assets, and establishments providing related services. The major
portion of this sector comprises establishments that rent, lease or otherwise allow the use of their own assets by others. The assets may be tangible, as is the case of real estate and equipment, or intangible, as is the case with patents and trademarks.
