A status hearing is scheduled Wednesday morning for the former Palm Beach Gardens police officer charged with killing local drummer Corey Jones last year.

The hearing comes a day after the one-year anniversary of Jones’ death.  Former Officer Nouman Raja has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Family and friends gathered to mark the somber anniversary of Jones' death Tuesday.

Jones was waiting for a tow truck on the side of the road when Raja approached him, in plain clothes and shot him.

Raja was indicted by a grand jury and charged with attempted first-degree murder and manslaughter.

This case prompted Palm Beach Gardens officers to wear body cameras and enforce tighter policies plain-clothed officers.

The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.  Raja is expected to appear in court.
