A walk to raise money for our troops here and overseas occurred Saturday in Stuart.
"A Walk in their Shoes" kicked off at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park.
It's a fundraiser to send at least 100 holiday care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Participants in the walk loaded backpacks with care items and walked or ran the packages to salute veterans and those in active duty.
Alicia Cheplick, the organizer and founder of the non-profit, Courage on all Fronts, says every week she checks in with troops overseas.
"A lot of them they have really good spirits, their morale is high but on those care packages they tell me that's the best days they have," explained Cheplick. "And when I talk to them, it's very uplifting to hear all the good that's coming over to them."
Some of the items to include in your care packages are hard candy, hand warmers, batteries, beef jerky, baby wipes, cough drops, eye drops, fruit snacks, hot cocoa, instant soup, socks (cotton) and trail mix.
Organizers will ship the care packages next week. They talk about two weeks to reach their destinations.
Activities included face painting for kids and a presentation from the Stuart Police Department featuring their police dogs at 2 p.m.
