Ex-deputy faces lewd & lascivious battery counts

A former Indian River County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested.

The sheriff's office says Steve Peek faces two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between 12-16 years old.

Peek worked for the agency between 2008 and 2014 when he left to pursue another career, according to the sheriff's office.

He was rehired this year as a deputy.

"When I learned of the criminal allegations against Peek, I terminated his employment with our agency,"  Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said in a statement.

The sheriff says Peek, who was let go October 28, has been cooperative with detectives.

His bond was set at $150,000 on each count.
