Task Force in Delray Beach reduces holiday crime

It's the season for holiday shopping and unfortunately people look at it as opportunity.

That's why Officer Daniel Cramer is at the Plaza at Delray Wednesday night.

"Strip mall that we provide high security for," says Cramer.

He's one of several officers on Delray Beach Beach Police Departments Holiday Robbery Task Force. It's a group that monitors shopping areas from Black Friday until the day after Christmas.

"Secure while they walk to their vehicles," said OfficerCramer.

For 20 years officers have patrolled these areas.

"Let people know we're here," he added.

The city receives a grant each year to assist with overtime pay for the officers. Since 1997 the task force has successfully reduced crime during the holiday season.

"We have not had any particular crimes or robberies in those particular in those particular areas that an officer has been stationed at," said Cramer.

He says shoppers should take precautions as well. Always lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight.
