Just after 11 a.m., Sunil Joshi and his family went for their daily walk along Flagler Drive. But they noticed something they had never seen before in the Intracoastal Waterway.

"When we came out, we see someone was swimming in the water and we were surprised," said Joshi.

They tried talking to the woman as they walked close to the seawall.

"They kept on floating and floating and a couple of the other bystanders came in and they tried to talking to her and no response. So that's when we got worried and called 9-1-1,"  Vidhi Joshi said.

"She did finally speak to us and we were able to coax her toward our ladder and finally made that happen," said Battalion Chief Jose Montero with West Palm Beach Fire Rescue.

Though fire rescue did not tell WPTV the circumstances or her identity, the Joshi family is glad they called for help.

"Who knows what's in the water. Something can happen. That's why it's our duty as a citizen to protect each other," Sunil said.

The woman was not injured, but was taken to the hospital for observation.
