Deputies remained at the scene into Sunday night where 74-year-old Sheila Hamner was found dead and her son was injured this weekend.
Pete Johnson lives two doors down from the Hamners.
"I stopped and talked to her many times," said Johnson.
As he looked at the scene, he was at a loss for words.
"She's the last person you'd think this would happen to," said Johnson.
He said Sheila was well-known in the community and a sweet, kind and caring lady.
She was found dead Saturday and her son is recovering in the hospital.
Deputies say a man with a machete or a large knife attacked them.
Twenty-four hours later, deputies said the suspect is still out there.
Businesses nearby are on high alert.
"He had a machete, that's unbelievable," says Cat Richardson at Joy's Ice Cream.
She and her co-workers are hoping someone is caught soon.
"We'll keep an eye out as best we can, but a lot of people look the same, so it's hard," said Richardson.
