A man who has been on death row in Florida has been tied to a 41-year-old cold case murder of a Delray Beach woman.

James Franklin Rose, 70, was transferred Monday to the Palm Beach County Jail and faces first-degree murder charges in the death of Jean Savage on June 4, 1975.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Savage was found sexually battered and stabbed death at her home on Skyline Drive.

PBSO said their cold case unit in 2015 identified evidence at the time of the homicide and processed it for DNA, which tied Rose to the scene.

Rose was incarcerated at the Union Correctional Institute in Raiford, Fla., and on death row for the 1976 homicide of an 8-year-old girl in Broward County.

PBSO said cold case detectives interviewed Rose about Savage's murder and he confessed.

A grand jury on Sept. 29 charged Rose with murder.
