U.S. Rep. Hastings boycotting inauguration

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings is boycotting Friday's inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. The Democrat, whose district includes parts of West Palm Beach and the Glades, said he's refusing to attend because of what he calls the "demagoguery that continues to define the incoming administration."

He said he was not protesting the election results.

Hastings has been a member of Congress since 1993.

The following is the statement released by Hastings' office.

"I have decided to boycott the Inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and remain in my Congressional district in Florida. This decision is not a protest of the results of the Electoral College, but rather, an objection to the demagoguery that continues to define the incoming administration.
