A former candidate for Palm Beach County sheriff faces multiple charges in connection with a battery in Riviera Beach last month.

According to a police report, Richard Sessa of North Palm Beach faces charges after an incident at an apartment located at 2525 Lake Dr. on Feb. 21 at 2 a.m.

A man told police that Sessa, a former Riviera Beach police officer, followed him home from the Seaside Bar & Grill and rode up in motorcycle with four other men.

Sessa is then accused of grabbing the victim around the neck, choking him and saying, "I will kill you," as he pulled what appeared to be a .45 caliber firearm from his waistband.

The victim said he feared for his life because he knew Sessa was a former officer.

The man told police that once Sessa choked him that Sessa walked into his apartment uninvited and sat down on his couch.  The victim said when he threatened to call police, Sessa and the four other men left.

Sessa was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, battery and armed trespassing.

He was defeated by incumbent Sheriff Ric Bradshaw in the November election.
