The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two home burglaries that happened Thursday in Palm City.

Detectives say someone broke into a home in the Murano neighborhood and a home in The Monarch Country Club during broad daylight while the homeowners were not home.

In both cases, a thief or thieves forced their way into the home through locked doors.

The homeowner in Murano said jewelry, money and a gun were taken from her home when someone pried open the front door.

In Monarch, the homeowners said nearly $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen when the thief forced their way inside through back sliders.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office sent a public safety phone call to some Martin County residents warning them about the home burglaries.

For now, they are trying to make neighbors be alert so this does not become a crime trend.

“Residents are reminded to keep all doors and windows locked and activate alarms when you leave your home,” the phone call said.

The Murano home owner spent Friday cleaning up her ransacked home.

“You never expect it to happen to you,” she said. ““We have people who think they’re privileged to walk into people’s house and take what they think belongs to them.”

Detectives are also asking anyone with surveillance video in the area to contact the Sheriff’s Office to help identify the burglars.
