South Floridians on ACA react to GOP plan

Thousands of people in Palm Beach County and along the Treasure Coast depend on the Affordable Care Act and they want to know what to expect with a new Republican Healtcare Plan.

Two popular provisions in Obamacare would carry over to this new plan. Coverage for children on their parents plan until age 26 and coverage for people with preexisting conditions.

Renee and Charlie Thornton are glad to see those Obamacare provisions are included.

Renee was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2015. She and her husband say the Affordable Care Act saved her life.

"If they drop the preexisting clause, that's a big concern," says Thornton.

The GOP plan preserves that coverage.

The American Health Care Act also takes away tax penalties replacing that with a 30% surcharge if customers go weeks without insurance.

Mindy Stern is both on ACA and an insurance agent.

She worries the new plan would not cover as many people as the Affordable Care Act. Also the bill provides tax credits for people to buy insurance base on age.

"Give people a tax credit at the end of the year and if they have enough income to receive a tax credit. If they don't have enough income to receive a tax credit, will they receive it? So, there are some questions there that are unknown," says Stern.

Both sides of the aisle are set to debate the bill soon.
