Report: Tim Tebow in lineup today for Mets

This is the day Tim Tebow fans have waited for.

Multiple media outlets report the former University of Florida quarterback will play for the New York Mets during the team’s spring training games Wednesday and Friday in Port St. Lucie.

The Heisman Trophy winner signed a minor league contract with the Mets last year and reported to minor league spring training last week.

But Wednesday, he will play with the major leaguers for the first time, starting as the designated hitter, NJ.com reports.

Tebow hit a home run during his first at-bat in an instructional league game with the Mets last September. He struggled in an Arizona-based league for baseball prospects later last fall.

The Mets have 14 players in the World Baseball Classic and needed to call up several minor league players to fill those positions during the Grapefruit League’s spring training schedule.

At last check, tickets are still available for both home games Wednesday and Friday in Port St. Lucie.

Tebow will face the winner of 2016’s Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League, Rick Porcello on Wednesday.

Mets Manager Terry Collins told NJ.com he doesn’t expect Tebow to make the final major league roster that will move on to New York City after spring training.

"I think he's great for our organization and great for our fans. He's a pretty famous guy and it will be fun to get him out there,” Collins is quoted saying.

The first pitch is 1:10 p.m.
