Push to incorporate Hobe Sound, Indiantown

Story Video: Click here

The push to turn Indiantown and Hobe Sound into incorporated cities moved forward on Friday.

The Martin County Board of Commissioners held an emergency meeting and voted 3-1 to pass the resolution.

This legislation now goes to the House and Senate, who will have to pass the measure. From there it would move to the governor’s desk for his signature.

If all of that happens, a vote would then be held in both towns in November.

Critics who opposed incorporation say they don't want to lose the neighborhood feel and character of their towns.

Supporters say it would allow them to have control of zoning and building codes.

It's unclear if residents would pay more or fewer taxes.
