Boynton carjacker charged with shooting at cop

A Boynton Beach man faces multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder in connection with a Sunday afternoon carjacking of a pregnant woman and shooting at a Boynton Beach police officer.

Police said a woman was carjacked at 12:20 p.m. while parked along the street at a residence located in the 400 block of NW 12 Ave.  The police report says the woman was waiting while a passenger went inside the home.

The suspect, identified as Traynard Johnson, 30, of Boynton Beach, is accused of getting into the passenger's seat with a handgun inside his waistband.

The report says Johnson then told the victim to drive, but she refused and got out of the car.

Police said Johnson then drove the vehicle west with the victim's iPhone, wallet and other possessions still inside the car.

The woman, who is six months pregnant, used another person's phone to call 911.

A female Boynton Beach police officer responded to the area and heard a gunshot as the carjacked vehicle passed the officer's patrol car.

The officer later discovered that the bullet entered her vehicle at the rear driver's side door at seat level but did not exit the patrol car.

Police said Johnson later spun out of control and came to a rest at Barton Memorial Park. Johnson got out of the car and put his hands up but then ran from the scene.

Officers said Johnson reached into his waistband several times during the foot pursuit before two Boynton Beach officers took him into custody.

One of the Boynton Beach officers said Johnson remarked, "You will see me again.  Next time it won't be good for you."

Johnson is also accused of saying, "You guys killed my brother, and I wish I would have killed one of you guys. If I can, I'm gonna kill 18 more of you."

Officers found a .45 caliber handgun inside the compartment of the carjacked vehicle.

Other bullets struck the window of a parked Dodge Caravan in the 400 block of NW 12th Ave. and a Ford Focus parked in a driveway in the 400 block of NW 12th Ave.

Johnson faces charges of carjacking, attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and felon in possession of firearm or ammunition.
