Columbus-era replica ships coming to South Fla.

You might recall that school rhyme, “in 14-hundred 92, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” Now you can go back in time with an organization inviting you to step foot on replicas of the ships that hosted his journey.

The Florida Coastline is often freckled with ships, boats and yachts of many sizes; but replicas of the ships Niña and the Pinta will be sailing and stopping for public view.  They are the only replicas in the world like them.

The Pinta is about 20 feet longer than the Niña , which is 65 feet in length.  The Niña is the ship on which Columbus sailed the Atlantic during three voyages that traveled 25,000 miles. The organization describes the ships as “floating museums” and says thousands of people have stepped aboard in southeast Florida alone during recent visits.

On a tour of several cities, the Niña  and Pinta will first stop in Jupiter at Harbourside Place March 24 to 29, 2017.  They will then make a stop in Vero Beach City Marina March 31-April 9, 2017.
