PB County municipalities holding elections today

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today in 21 municipalities in Palm Beach County.

Voters in Boca Raton are choosing between two candidates for mayor, who both agree it's a wonderful city to live in, but that it also has traffic problems.

Susan Haynie has been mayor of Palm Beach County's second largest city since 2014. She faces a challenge from Al Zucaro,  a former West Palm Beach city commissioner who moved to Boca Raton in 2009.

Zucaro says there's too much traffic downtown. He says a common sense approach is needed with a better strategy for developing the city.

Haynie calls the traffic situation one of the city's toughest challenges. But she says she's brought in more than $110 million for transportation improvements. She says her work as a transportation analyst will help solve the problem.

This is typical of the contests that are being held in the 21 municipalities in Palm Beach County.

One of the biggest changes will take place in Palm Beach Gardens where three longtime city council members are leaving because of term-limits.

In Palm Beach Shores, voters will not have any candidates on the ballot, but they'll have more referendums on the ballot than any other municipality. They'll be voting on five questions, ranging from eliminating the tax collector's office to how town commissioners should be elected.

The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections says 11,000 vote by mail ballots have already been cast.

We'll have all the results tonight on wptv.com.
