(NBC) - Subaru of America is recalling nearly 26,000 new cars to fix a problem with the rearview camera display.

The recall involves the 2017 model year Impreza.

The company says the rearview camera display may not work properly due to a software problem.

If it's not working properly, the driver's view of what is behind the car can be reduced.

That can potentially increase the risk of a crash or backing over someone behind the vehicle.

Subaru of America will notify owners of the 2017 Impreza sedan and 5-door. Dealers will then update the infotainment software free of charge to drivers.
