Dog food recalled for potential health risk

Blue Buffalo Company is voluntarily recalling another one of its products.

On Friday, the company recalled BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs.  This recall comes as other products associated with the company were recalled in February

The recall affects the product below:

BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs 12.5 oz can

The company says the product has the potential to contain elevated levels of naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones.

Dogs ingesting high levels of the hormones may have increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness.

Blue Mountain says prolonged consumption could cause symptoms to increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing. Should these symptoms occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.

The company says they have not received any reports of dogs exhibiting these symptoms from consuming this product.  However, the FDA advised Blue Buffalo of a single consumer who reported symptoms in one dog, who has now fully recovered.
