4 Arrested for stealing mail in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. -- Four Georgia men have been arrested and are accused of stealing mail in Martin County.

MCSO Air 1 observed a vehicle perusing in a residential neighborhood aroun 1:15 a.m.

Surveillance video shows the car driving from mailbox to mailbox along Waaler Street and removing the contents.

The video also stopped at a dumpster, where much of the "unwanted" mail was disposed of.

Deputies found stolen mail from homes and businesses on Waaler Street, Jay Street, and Commerce Avenue.

24-year old Demetrius Evans, 26-year old Darius Evans, 32-year old Joshua Griffith, and 29-year old Joseph Porchea were arrested.

Porchea (who initially gave a false name to deputies) has a warrant out of Lee County. He is being held without bond and will be transported back to Lee County to satisfy that warrant.

Both Evans brothers have warrants out of Georgia, but have bonds because Georgia will not extradite for those warrants. Joshua Griffith has a $1000.00 bond.

MCSO EYES IN THE SKY GIVE GEORGIA MAIL THIEVES A MARTIN COUNTY WELCOME, COMPLETE WITH GROUND TRANSPORTATION TO OUR JAIL Technology has changed the way MCSO conducts routine crime prevention patrols, and it’s apparent that four Georgia men who attempted to victimize Martin County residents, didn’t get the memo. 24-year old Demetrius Evans, 26-year old Darius Evans, 32-year old Joshua Griffith, and 29-year old Joseph Porchea were arrested after MCSO Pilot, Deputy Sean Marston, and Tactical Flight Officer, Deputy Ed Stagmiller observed the vehicle perusing in a residential neighborhood around 1:15 this morning. As you can see on the video, the subjects then drive from mailbox to mailbox along Waaler Street opening residential mailboxes and removing any contents. They also stopped at a dumpster, where much of the “unwanted” mail was disposed of. Deputies found stolen mail from homes and businesses along Waaler Street, Jay Street, and Commerce Avenue. Watch what happens when MCSO Air 1, makes contact with our ground units. MCSO K-9 Deputy Justin Albauer is the first unit to get to the suspect car. Seconds later, our out-of-town guests meet our midnight shift for the first time. Three of the four men also have arrest warrants out of different areas. Joseph Porchea (who initially gave a false name to deputies) has a warrant out of Lee County. He is being held without bond and will be transported back to Lee County to satisfy that warrant. Both Evans brothers have warrants out of Georgia, but have bonds because Georgia will not extradite for those warrants. Joshua Griffith has a $1000.00 bond.
