High winds destroy homes in Okeechobee Co.

Storms caused damage as they swept across Okeechobee County Thursday morning, according to sheriff's office.

At least a dozen homes were destroyed, Sheriff Noel Stephen said.

"By the grace of God, no one died," Sheriff Stephen said.

Fort Drum Community Church has been set up as a shelter.

An Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said campers were reported overturned near Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

On 441 near Fort Drum fallen limbs were blocking streets, she said.

And at mile markers 183 and 184 several wrecks were reported on the Turnpike.

Hail was also reported in Indian River County.
